Not all potatoes are chipping and frying potatoes. It takes a special spud to make nice, white, crispy and fresh Craft Chippery Chips! potatoes_Clean(no shine)Our potatoes are specifically grown to be Chipping Potatoes. Chipping potatoes are potatoes that are high in starch and low in sugar. This ensures that the Potato Chips are a beautiful and an attractive white to light golden colour. The result is a crispier and tastier chip! Chipping potatoes are not usually found in your local grocery store and are a high-Chipsquality potato that are grown for Craft Chippery’s small batch, craft Potato Chips. These potatoes are a more rounded shape and have a lighter skin colour depending. These potatoes are very susceptible to damage and there are many special storage and handling systems in place to ensure optimal quality. The potatoes that you might find in the grocery store have a higher sugar content than our Chipping Potato. Which makes Craft Chippery Chips even more specially crafted for you! Thinking outside the potato box and staying with our Roots! Not only do we have traditional White Chipping Potatoes but we are getting into specialty craft type items (hence the name, “craft”) We also produce and test and sell other root vegetable chips as well. sweet potato chipsWe also produce many other root vegetable chips that you may be familiar with with its growing popularity and Health Benefits, such as the sweet potato. The sweet potatoes or Yams that we use are not specifically grown for chipping like the chipping potato which makes it very difficult to work with. But because of our small batch and hand-crafted capabilities we are able to get a perfect crispy chip. They have an orange-type colour to them with a dark orange or brown skin. Although they usually fry to be a bit darker in colour due to the high sugar content, they are very tasty just on their own or spice it up a notch with our Cinnamon Brown Sugar seasoning! Cassava. If you don’t already know what it is, you’re probably wondering what is cassava or yuca? It is a long tuberous starchy root about two inches around and eight inches long. The root has a brown fibrous skin and snowy white interior flesh. Because it bruises easily, it’s often sold covered in a protective wax coating. Other names for cassava are yuca, manioc, mandioca, yucca root, casabe, and known to many as Tapioca. They can be seasoned any way you prefer. Taro Root. Taro Root is another root vegetable that we fry in our cookers. These roots also have many health benefits. Extruded Products extruded An extruded product is what you might recognize as cheesies or pork rinds. Here at Craft Chippery we are always exploring new snack products. We have tried many different extruded products. From rings with onion flavour, shrimp crisps, tapioca chips, vegetable based sticks, etc. These products are ground up with various things and usually dehydrated. When you cook them in our oil, its quite a sight to see! Look for extruded products at your Craft Chippery. Nachos nchos We fry corn nacho chips in our fryers. They are tri-coloured triangular shaped white corn chips that are pre-cut. We fry them on the spot and season them with a flour fine salt. We drench them in cheese and a Pico de Gallo. Our chip making process is very flexible in that we can make a variety of different kinds of root vegetable chips that are healthier to snack on that your traditional potato chips.
